Reports

Gabapentin, Phenobarbital, Diazepam, and Lorazepam for the Treatment of Alcohol Withdrawal: Clinical Effectiveness and Guidelines

  • We conducted a review on the clinical effectiveness of using gabapentin, phenobarbital, diazepam, or lorazepam to treat alcohol withdrawal.
  • We also searched for evidence-based guidelines for treating alcohol withdrawal in the emergency department, and evidence-based guidelines for providing addiction services to vulnerable populations experiencing alcohol withdrawal during a pandemic.
  • While no guidelines were identified regarding managing alcohol withdrawal during a pandemic, literature was identified regarding pharmaceutical options for treating alcohol withdrawal. Guidelines for treating alcohol withdrawal in the emergency department were also identified.

Ongoing Trials of Plasma-Based Therapies for the Treatment of COVID-19

  • This report provides information on ongoing randomized controlled trials of intravenous immune globulin and hyperimmune globulin being investigated for the treatment of COVID-19.
  • It will be updated every two weeks.
  • Ongoing trials of convalescent plasma are addressed in separate CADTH reports.

Ongoing Trials for Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) Vaccines in the Prevention of COVID-19

  • This report provides information on ongoing clinical trials of BCG vaccines being investigated for the prevention of COVID-19.
  • It will be updated every two weeks.
  • Ongoing trials of novel vaccines for COVID-19 are addressed in a separate CADTH report.
