2018 Call for Nominations Frequently Asked Questions

CADTH is seeking nominations for expert, patient, and public members to its advisory and expert committees. Here are some answers that may help you during the nomination process.

What opportunities are available?

CADTH is seeking nominations for the following roles:

  • CADTH Drug Policy Advisory Committee:
    • one hospital representative
    • one health authority representative.
  • CADTH Canadian Drug Expert Committee:
    • multiple expert members
    • one public member.
  • CADTH pan-Canadian Oncology Drug Review Expert Review Committee:
    • one health economist
    • one patient member.
  • CADTH Health Technology Expert Review Panel:
  • one core member with Health Technology Assessment (HTA) expertise.

Are there opportunities for patients?

Yes, there is one vacancy for a patient member on the CADTH Pan-Canadian Oncology Drug Review Expert Review Committee.

Are there opportunities for members of the general public?

At this time, there is one opportunity for members of the general public on the CADTH Canadian Drug Expert Committee.

What is the deadline for nominations?

Nominations must be received no later than 4:00 p.m. ET, Friday, April 27, 2018.

Who can submit a nomination?

Nominations may be submitted by any of the following:

  • individuals from federal, provincial, and territorial jurisdictions, including:
    • federal departments providing health-related services
    • provincial and territorial ministries of health
    • regional health authorities or local health integration networks and their constituent acute-care facilities or hospitals, or long-term care facilities
    • other health-related groups funded by provincial or territorial governments, including cancer agencies, transplant agencies, and public health groups
  • representatives from organizations that represent health professionals
  • health and allied health professionals
  • members of the general public.

Can I nominate myself or does someone have to put my name forward?

Nominations may be submitted on someone’s behalf, or interested candidates may nominate themselves.

Can I apply for more than one role?

Yes, you can apply for more than one role. However, you will have to complete separate nominations for each role you apply to.

Why do I have to complete a conflict of interest form?

All nominees are required to fully disclose any potential conflicts of interest. Our conflict of interest policies are intended to ensure and maintain CADTH’s high ethical standards, reputation, and integrity.

What if I have previously completed a conflict of interest disclosure form for CADTH?

Even if you have previously done so, please upload a new, updated disclosure form as part of your nomination.

What is considered a conflict of interest?

A conflict of interest is any situation in which personal, occupational, professional, or financial considerations, either direct or indirect, may affect or compromise, or appear to affect or compromise, an individual’s objectivity, fairness, or professional judgment in carrying out their duties as a member of the Board of Directors, or a member of an advisory or expert committee.

Will a conflict of interest exclude me from consideration?

Having a conflict of interest does not automatically exclude a nominee from consideration. Understanding the nature and scope of conflicts is a component of the selection process.

What is the time commitment?

The time commitment will vary depending on the role you are interested in:

  • CADTH Drug Policy Advisory Committee:
    • up to two days per month, including participating in meetings that are held up to four times per year (two of these are in-person meetings)
  • CADTH Canadian Drug Expert Committee:
    • up to two days per month, including participating in monthly meetings
  • CADTH pan-Canadian Oncology Drug Review Expert Review Committee:
    • up to two days per month, including participating in monthly committee meetings 
  • CADTH Health Technology Expert Review Panel:
    • up to two days per month, including participating in meetings that are held three to four times per year.

Where are the meetings held?

Meetings are generally held in person in Ottawa. CADTH pan-Canadian Oncology Drug Review Expert Review Committee meetings are held in Toronto, and meetings are occasionally held via teleconference or videoconference. Please refer to the details of the specific role for which you wish to be nominated.

Are my travel costs reimbursed?

Yes, travel expenses are reimbursed in accordance with CADTH’s travel policy.

How long do members serve on expert or advisory committees?

Members are generally appointed for a term of two years. Terms may be renewed once, at the discretion of CADTH’s President and CEO.

What is the remuneration for members of the CADTH expert or advisory committees?

Non-jurisdictional members may receive an honorarium in accordance with CADTH policy. Expenses are reimbursed in accordance with CADTH policy.

How do I submit a nomination?

You must submit your nomination (for yourself or when nominating someone else) through the online nomination form. All of the required materials must also be uploaded using that form.

What documents are required?

The following items are required as part of each nomination:

  • completed nomination form (complete online)
  • completed Statement of Interest and Qualifications (download and complete)
  • nominee’s curriculum vitae (upload your own document)
  • completed Conflict of Interest form (download and complete)
  • completed Code of Conduct form (download and complete).

How do I provide my documents?

Documents must be uploaded using the online nomination form. These documents may be provided in either Microsoft Word (.doc/.docx) or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) format.

Can I submit my nomination via mail or fax?

All nominations must be received online, unless arrangements have been made in advance for accessibility accommodations.

What if I require materials in an accessible format?

To request materials in an accessible format, please contact us at 613-226-2553 or requests@cadth.ca.

Can I save my nomination form and come back to it?

No, you cannot save the form partway through the process. However, the form will not time out as long as your Internet browser remains open. Please ensure you have all your documents ready to submit before you begin filling in the nomination form.

Can someone be nominated for more than one role?

Yes, a candidate may be nominated for more than one role; however, a separate nomination is required for each role.

What are the selection criteria?

For further details, please refer to the description of the role you are interested in. This description outlines the qualities, knowledge, and skills needed to perform the role. Using the statement of interest and qualifications template, you will need to provide written statements that demonstrate your capabilities for each criterion, including specific examples or situations where you have demonstrated the qualities, knowledge, and skills listed in the role description.

What happens after I submit my nomination?

A confirmation that we have received your nomination will be sent to the nominator by email. As part of the selection process, some nominees may be invited to participate in an interview, and their references may be contacted. All nominees will be notified by email once the selection process concludes, which is expected to be early May 2018.

How will interviews be conducted?

Interviews will be conducted by phone.
