June 24, 2014 - The creation of an Advisory Panel on Healthcare Innovation, announced earlier today by federal Health Minister Rona Ambrose, will help ensure all Canadians benefit from health innovation, said Dr. Brian O’Rourke, President and CEO of CADTH, the pan-Canadian health technology assessment agency.
“There are two positive aspects to this announcement,” said Dr. O’Rourke. “The first is that the panel will identify promising areas of innovation – which will help focus health system innovation where it is most needed.
“The second is that the panel’s work will bring together a wide range of perspectives. It is vitally important that innovation is linked with evidence development, reimbursement decision-making, health technology assessment, clinical expertise, and patient priorities – and the best way to do that is by providing a forum for these and other voices to be heard.
