No relevant studies were identified on the clinical effectiveness and safety of long-term (> 1 year) acamprosate use for adults with alcoholism.Three evidence-based guidelines recommended that acamprosate be initiated in individuals with alcoholism after assisted withdrawal and in combination with psychological or psychosocial therapy but do not provide recommendations regarding use beyond one year.
