Mark Wies was appointed to his current role as the Assistant Deputy Minister, Health Services and Programs for the New Brunswick Department of Health in January 2020. In this capacity, Mark is responsible for primary care, acute care, addictions and mental health, health workforce planning, pharmaceutical services, and innovation and ehealth.

Since April 2016, Mark has served as Assistant Deputy Minister of Health responsible for various other branches including Policy and Legislation, Intergovernmental Relations, Corporate Privacy, Medicare, and Physician Services. He joined the New Brunswick Department of Health in 2013 as Executive Director responsible for Policy and Intergovernmental Relations.

Preceding his duties at the New Brunswick Department of Health, Mark led policy-related initiatives as an executive director in energy and communications portfolios. Prior to joining the provincial government in 2008, he held progressive senior management positions in the private sector.

Mark has a BA in Economics from Saint Mary’s University in Halifax and has completed professional programs through the University of Western Ontario and the Royal Bank of Canada in leadership, financial analysis and marketing.
